In
the State of the Jammu and Kashmir there
was no organized support system for the
orphans and other destitute families except
that some extended families took care of
these families and orphans. The orphan through
their population was not so large, mostly
used to be left at the mercy of God by their
relatives. Even where the relatives volunteered
to take care, it was not a selfless effort
but was motivated by an eye on the property,
future earning or exploitation of the orphan.
Widows also did not have an organized social
support system then.
In the year 1972 a great son of the soil,
a renowned academician and poet, an honest,
efficient and upright officer of the state
government and above all a selfless social
worker, Abdul Khaliq Tak, most popularly
known as Tak Zainagari established the first
voluntary and charitable organization “The
Jammu and Kashmir Yateem Trust” (JKYT) in
Hardushiva Sopore and got it registered
in 1973. |
|
| Tak
Zainagari had, as an administrator as well as
in connection with his research work “different
dialects of Kashmiri Language” toured length and
breadth of the state and had noticed the plight
of the orphans, widows and downtrodden which motivated
him to establish this organization.
Since this was a gracious and altruistic effort,
first of its kind in the state renowned people
irrespective of caste, creed, religion, political
affiliations, sex and region showed willingness
to extend a helping hand to the Trust. Soon it
becomes a state-wide organization with its branches
almost in all the districts of the state.
|
J&K
Yateem Trust is a recognized charitable Trust
whose aim and declared objective is to serve the
orphans, widows, ill and downtrodden irrespective
of their caste, creed, religion, sex or region.
|
|
This
is a non-political and non-governmental organization
having no motives except to serve the humanity.
Board of Trustees and Executive Members Trust
has dedicated and honest people with integrity
on the Board of Trustees, the executive, and at
the level of its all units who manage the affairs
of the Trust with a vision of service to the mankind
particularly orphans and widows.

The
Trust has since adopted its constitution as well
as Trust Deed with rules and regulations for the
efficient and smooth functioning and it is a society
defined under the Registration of Societies Act
as it stands registered with the Registrar of
Societies under No. 186-S-73 and is a registered
Trust as per the definition of Trusts Act as it
has been registered by the court of law. Our performance
over the past more than three decades bears testimony
to the very fact that we are fully committed to
our constitution. Trust has never compromised
with its democratic, non political and non governmental
stature and has kept the candle of social service
burning so that others could also light more candles
and enlighten lives of suffering people. The Trust
has been recognized by the state Govt. of J&K
and Government of India on the basis of meritorious
record of social work done by it for the welfare
of needy people. The Trust is entitled to get
and receive the foreign contribution under FCRA
and the donations given to the Trust by the donors
are exempted from income tax under section 80-G
of Income Tax Act. During past 32 years in general
and during last 15 years' turmoil in particular,
our donors, sympathizers and well-wishers have
been lending their full support and co-operation
to the Trust. 32 years is a long time for successful
implementation of a program. Yet, the turmoil
situation prevailing in the valley has left us
with a huge army of orphans, widows, handicapped
and destitute and crores of rupees are needed
for their welfare and rehabilitation. Therefore
problem of providing nutritious food, pollution-free
atmosphere, well-built shelter, quality education,
safe drinking water, health care etc. to orphans
is so vast and so complex that the journey remains
far from finished. We are determined to achieve
overwhelming success in bringing similes on the
faces of crying orphans and lamenting widows.
|
|
Our
performance over the past 32 years has been self-explanatory.
We are fully Committed to the welfare of destitute
orphans, deserving widows, ailing and infirm people
and distressed families without any self-centered
aims. Anybody can step in to our office anytime
and see for himself as to what all has been done
for the welfare of orphans and widows. Unfortunately
co-operation from the society is much below our
expectation. If well-to-do people pay the 'zakat'
due to them on their wealth and property as per
their religious obligations, we can well be left
with such a huge surplus that shall be sufficient
enough to get rid of all the sufferings of orphans,
widows and the down-trodden. Winning
the blessings of God and a peaceful life Hereafter
are the guiding forces for the Trustees of the
Trust and its members. The accounts of the Trust
(both Central office and its units) are got audited
properly each year through a reputed chartered
Accountant and these are published in three prominent
newspapers for information of the general public.
The records and accounts of the Trust are available
for examination and inspection of those who are
interested. The Trust observes cent per cent transparency
in its activities and functions.
